Can I change from Tunecore Publishing to Songtrust?

I'm currently signed up for Tunecore Publishing for a catalogue of around 35 tracks. I'm not extremely happy with the service I've received so far (they take weeks to respond to customer support and have incorrectly registered a number of my songs). I have 2 questions:

  1. Can I move my catalogue to Songtrust?
  2. If that's not possible, can I use Songtrust for all future tracks?

I don't see why not. I work in mechanical licensing and see publishing shares change multiple times within a year in some cases. Depends on the terms of your agreement with Tunecore.

Yes you can! But for the love of god don't use songtrust!

Distributors are all lame in their own ways, but Songtrust is one of the worse ones.

  1. Set up a writer and publisher account with ASCAP ($100) or BMI ($150)
  2. Find a distributor you want to use
  3. Keep all your royalties for yourself; since you have a publisher, you can collect your mechanical royalties through HFA and MRI

If you go with songtrust, you lose out on your mechanicals and your publishing. They also are VERY slow at submitting your songs to the PROs on time and accurately.

Thanks for the reply! I don't think Songtrust is a distributor though. Also, from my understanding, I'd have to sign up for all PROs in the world to collect my global royalties (most of my income is from Spotify streams in Europe and USA). Is this not the point of Songtrust?

It's not.

Your domestic PRO has collections deals with PROs around the world! You can also sign up for ASCAP and it will collect on your behalf in all territories except your country.

DM me if you want more details.

I changed from Tunecore to DistroKid then to Symphonic Distribution. Each time all I had to do was take down my releases, wait for them to be pulled from the various services, then submit via the new service. Make sure to record your UPC and ISRC codes for submitting to your new service so that all of your stats and account follow to the new distribution service and streaming services.

OP is talking about publishing, not distribution.

Ah, I did miss that. Thanks for pointing that out. Cheers.
