IPSC Gear

I'm looking at getting into IPSC next year and I need to gear up. I have a S&W M&P9 with 3 mags and that's it so far.

What else do I need and what do you recommend?

Good holster/belt/mag pouches. I like Bladetecs myself.

At least 2 more mags, Bladetech holster, CR Speed or DAA belt and mag pouches depending on taste/price/availability. I would double up on the ear pro for indoor matches, and you might want some lead wipes to clean the lead off your hands if the club you're shooting at doesn't have running water to wash your hands. You also need shoes with good grip, and maybe a baseball cap for keeping the sun out of your eyes outdoors. Range bag and ammo can of course, and you may want to think about reloading your own rounds, but wait to see if you're really into the sport before making that investment.

I dunno if it's the same everywhere, but some kind of collapsible wagon or golf cart type thing is a godsend for schlepping all your gear around at outdoor comps

I wish I knew this for my first rifle match, I'm still on the lookout for one

I think some Cowboy action forums have DYI cart plans that you can make/modify.

Get another mag and a belt setup. I recommend belts that are dual belt systems and kydex holster/pouches. Also make sure the holster is allowed. I think there are some that the organization has banned.

If you are asking these questions it is because you have not taken the Black Badge course. Reach out to some instructors, they will tell you what you need.

I was told I needed the gear to take the black badge course and the course registration form requires you to tell them what gun, holster, etc you're going to use...

Belt and gear. If you want to buy Canadian, persec gear makes a fantastic 2" duty belt. Bladetech is very popular for holsters. I bought Solely Canadian at a bit premium and lead time to keep with Canadian manufacturers. Tim makes great quality holsters though and is very communicative, very happy with my purchase from his company.

I like the idea dear of buying Canadian a lot. Will the duty belt accommodate most holsters and mag holders?

I am looking to get into it also I just need a belt but I live in an apartment. Any recommendations of hiding the belt while going from my car to my apartment?

Don't. I live in an apartment and competed for many years. People won't even know what it is. As long as you don't have stickers all over our cases from gun manufacturers they won't clue in. If you really are that wary you could throw a jacket over your bag and belt.

Oh all my cases and bags are unmarked for that reason. I am just not sure how to transport the belt as my bag doesn't have space for it. I am thinking about maybe one of those black reusable bags with a blanket on top?

Just remove the holster. There is no way someone who doesn't compete will know what magazine carriers look like.

Be careful with hiding firearms - you might very well be breaking concealment laws. As non-intuitive as it seems the laws do NOT want you hiding your guns. I'm sure varsil has posted about this at least once.

IIRC it's one of the laws that actively pisses him off because it directly contradicts itself against other laws.

The belt isn't that large, you can roll it and put it into a tote or gym bag.

I just stick mine in a shopping bag, mainly to help carry it when not wearing it. It's still visible. No one notices, or necessarily knows what it is without asking about it. (Most common questions I get coming and going is "what musical instrument do you play?" and "tools huh? off to work?" with my long gun cases. I think, other than a kid who was asking about tools, I've just straight up told anyone who's asked that they're rifles/shotguns/etc.)

um...gym bag?
