The Fourth-Story Window
I once climbed to the fourth floor, For better or for worse I wasn’t sure. As gently on the sofa I reclined You sat so near me, and all was fine.
Four floors above the place we met, Four floors and the courtyard I won’t forget. My heart your honest eyes did sway. You stole my night, brought forth the day.
The fourth story window we looked out of Watching people scurry, hurry, buzz. They weren’t with us, it was our world alone; Alone with you, and in your arms, felt like home.
The seasons changed, unbidden. And after all I lost, with you I stayed hidden. We left that fourth story window behind But when I happen across it, I smile inside.
Life pulled you away and you had to go But that fourth story window still seems to glow With the memories that we made there, Me upon the couch, and you, the chair.
I walk the courtyard where we met And trod the path I won’t soon forget. I pray in gratitude for that day And when I’m lost it points the way.
The lights are off now, the life is gone. The music’s ceased, the blinds are drawn. Though it’s darkened, quiet, forlorn, this I know- I’ll never forget the fourth story window; Never stop loving the fourth story window.
