1/2 cup each: balsamic vinegar, brwn sugar, honey 1/4 cup soy sauce 3 garlic cloves, minced 2 tablespoons sesame oil

Marinate chicken in above sauce for 2 hours

Cook legs at 450 on a cooling rack over a roasting pan for 30 minutes

Meanwhile: bring sauce to a boil then simmer 15 minutes adding starch (I sprinkle randomly & whisk) till it's desired thickness. Smear on chicken & cook another 10 minutes. Smear again and leave in the oven (turn off) for 5 more minutes.

The same sauce it was marinating in is the one you then cook?

16
justhatcrazygurl•

It looks like yes, but it should be safe if it marinates in the fridge and then you heat it to boiling on the stove.

vorinclex182•

Yeah same as how you cook your chicken and it kills off the bacteria.

Yep!

Simple yet effective week night meal! This is close to a marinade I use with salmon. Just add in minced ginger, green onions, red pepper flakes, and a little peanut oil. Baked or grilled its fantastic with a side of sticky rice.

Hey how many chicken legs do you use??

Oh I forgot you need to roll in granulated sugar & dust with icing sugar. Serve with corn syrup & skittles

weirdkidomg•

I made this recipe, but instead of putting it in the oven I breaded and fried it in cake batter and then covered it with chocolate syrup. Also, I’m a vegetarian so I didn’t use chicken.

An alternative that I like to do is brown sugar, honey for stickiness and Sriracha for spice instead.

2
nevesis•

Try to find some gochujang - I think you'll find it mixes better than the sriracha because it's thicker.

As for the above recipe... most Asian recipes would use 1 part sweet to one part sour. The above is American style sweet for sure.

So like 1/4 cup sugar + 1/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup vinegar + 1/4 cup lemon juice.

Also mix mirin in with the soy - and use a little higher amounts (1/4th of each) but add starch (tapioca, potato, corn) to the mix to thicken it up.

Well, this is convenient. I was looking for a Asian chicken recipie for dinner.

Cheers mate. Gonna make this tonight.

Directions are a bit off but I'll make do and see where I end up.

My directions are as precise as NASA

Instructions unclear. I am now on the moon. Chicken is good, though.

Mmm moon chicken

“Did you get sugar chicken?” “Is there any other kind?”

Reddituser1618033OP•

Chicken without sugar is like going for a long bike ride but not bringing any music.

6
Dash_Jones•

After you smear the sauce on the chicken do you cook for 10 mins in the oven again? Or in the pan with the thickened sauce?

4
Reddituser1618033OP•

In the oven

3
justhatcrazygurl•

Looks like in the oven again. And then you use the residual heat of the oven for the last five minutes.

I do something similar with thighs in the crock pot. It’s my kids favorite meal

Imma need that recipe if you don't mind?

jablessss•

Gonna need a recipe on that one

I love reading about all you guys trying it out! For seasoning I recommend white pepper, Tajik spice, chipotle and ginger. Also I never measure so the amounts are estimates only.

3
Unfriendly_NPC•

Looks really yummy and I like the look of the texture

2
Andeman1986•

Not too bad. A little too much Soy Sauce imo but went down well with the family.

If I make this, I reckon my Asian mother would be heckin proud asF and share it online with all her friends lmaoo

I made this for dinner and wow is it yummy!

Wlybear•

It was a hot tonight, I made this with waffles. I made a Dutch style chicken and waffles as well. It was a great pairing savory /sweet.

NoThanksBoogieMan•

My chicken is marinating right now! Can’t wait.

Edit: just ate it. So good and juicy! Next time I’ll add some spice because I like it spicy. But really I think it’s the most tender chicken I’ve ever cooked

2
Reddituser1618033OP•

I think the trick is the ridiculously high temp. Juice has no thyme to escape. :p I’m glad you enjoyed. I highly recommend white pepper to add heat.

My stomach is growling. Looks amazing!! Gonna try for sure.

Looking good. Going to try this out tomorrow.

1
TheOfficialMigz•

Is the chicken just cooked plain or do you have any batter or breading on it?

1
Reddituser1618033OP•

No batter. Just wash pat dry & marinate

1
turd-crafter•

Hell ya, made similar versions of this many times. I think the important base is getting that perfect salty sweet mix of soy sauce and sugar. I’ve used honey, maple and brown sugar different times and it always turns out. I usually add ginger and garlic and whatever else. I’ve used vinegar too like your recipe and it’s really good!

1
theladycrimson•

I have found a recipe similar to this, only difference is it was made in the crock pot... The sauce is very good (made extra sauce so that the rice I made could have some too). Thank you for reminding me about this recipe! I DO want to try it in the oven next.

Mitch_igan•

This is what you'd serve for dessert lol.
