If you go to a doctor and tell him your ailment, which is directly linked to your past unhealthy lifestyle. Since you have the right to doctor patient confidentiality....

Is he supposed to tell your insurance company? Which means they will not pay for anything associated to that since it is technically a "pre-existing"condition? If they are supposed to tell them, why is that allowed? I thought it was doctor patient confidentiality.

The reason I ask is because I have just that problem. I can go to the doctor and tell him why I am sick and he can fix me with fewer tests at less cost to the insurance company.

If I know he is going to tell the insurance company then I will not tell him the cause of the illness and I will let him take all the tests under the sun. When he finds out what is wrong. I will deny any connection to my past and the problem so the insurance company will end up paying more for the tests AND for my treatment.

Any thoughts?
