Boone is now useless to me..

So I got in a firefight with the BOS and apparently Boones' sniper rifle was knocked out of his hands. He never picked it up after the fight and will only equip his crappy pistol, even though I've given him other weapons in max condition. WTF? I'm not going to be able to use him the rest of my playthrough. HAE had a similar problem? Can I go back and get the weapon if I can find it?

In an unrelated note: I just cleaned out vault three using grenade launcher the entire time. Picked up the chainsaw too and now I'm all: RRRRNNNGGGGG RRRRRNNNGGG "Don't run you fucking dope fiends!" lulz
