Hey r/warhammer, just subscribed and..

Just subscribed because my boyfriend has gotten me into warhammer 40k...

The army I have decided on is Tau, I haven't read much (pretty much any) of their lore but I LOVE how they look like gundams and zoids. I'm a pretty artsy person and already have some paints and brushes ready and I've planned out making an army of the course of a year, doing a squad a month with painting/customizable modeling.

The question I have: is this an unrealistic goal? The only place I have to play at is Jester's Playhouse in Northfield NJ and I don't want to get bored of playing the same armies and just being wrecked every time.

Also, are there any good warhammer wiki's to read about lore? My google-fu isn't working because every time I try to search for some it gives me just crap about dawn of war (the pc game) and I've heard that differs so much from the actual miniatures game.

It's a 2000pt army that I am hoping I can pick and choose for the 750pt games and the 1500pt games that are played at the shop.

When I did the math at full retail at GW it turned out to be just 500$, and since a lot of the pieces and bitz boxes that I found are off ebay (I have a small guilt buying off ebay and not supporting my gameshop) I'll be saving a lot of money still.

Any thing anyone would change? Help a little?
