Question about a possible way to chemically desalinate seawater.

If you introduced a molecule that had a more negatively charged atom than oxygen is in H2O would the sodium ions attach to this molecule? And the same done for a positively charged atom to separate Cl from the hydrogen atoms. It may then be easier/cheaper to filter out these molecules (if they're significantly bigger than water) than it is to perform SWRO.
