Viable third party?

Am I the only person here who thinks that the US needs a viable third party to balance the parties? I am an Independent, with Libertarian beliefs, and I hate having to choose between one party who is slightly more fiscally responsible but wants to control every choice I have because of some moral obligation and the other who is slightly less fiscally responsible but gives me the ability to make my own decisions. Why can't we have a Libertarian party? Or no parties like President Washington wanted. I feel like we, as voting Americans, are constantly stuck between a rock and a hard place.
