IWTL how to repair my kitchen table.

Our kitchen table is a gift from my wife's parents. It has history. Unfortunately, I didn't take good care of it. Lots of water has been spilled on it and left for enough time to soften the wood and peel the first layer of wood.

I would like to know how to restore this table.

Any tips, detailed comments or steps would be greatly appreciated.
