How can IE9 have no column-support and get away with it?

According to microsoft.com they wont support columns from CSS3 in IE9. Why for the love of god? Every single fucking web page out there use multiple columns, but to support IE we still have to float divs and whatnot. Everyone else supports it in their current betas, and it would be such a big leap forward. I feel like murdering someone.
