Why did Prop 19 fail when such a significant amount of the elderly voting opposition were once, you know, hippies?

The baby boomers had Woodstock, the Beatles, sex drugs and rock n' roll, flower children, basically everything that spawned the "dirty pot smoking hippie" stereotype. So why vote against it?
