Cats or Dogs?
I've never owned either. I like dogs, but I'm not particularly interested in having one. I'd love to have a cat if I weren't allergic to them.
Favorite beverage?
Alcoholic: Granville Island beer (especially Lions Winter Ale), or various other Canadian microbrews
Non-alcoholic: Vancouver tap water, San Pellegrino Limonata/Aranciata, root beer, good coffee (not Starbucks), Happy Planet juice
Food?
Whenever I go to the Sha-Lin Noodle House (548 W Broadway, Vancouver), I always order the #1 with tofu and vegetables. They are simply the tastiest noodles I have ever had.
Favorite movie and tv shows?
Movie: Pulp Fiction, This is Spinal Tap, Wayne's World, Lord of the Rings, Fargo, Woodstock, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Snatch, The Matrix, Almost Famous, Close Encounters of the Third Kind…
Television: I am very fond of the CBC (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Da Vinci's Inquest, Intelligence, Made in Canada, The Tournament, Hockey Night in Canada), some BBC (The Office, Extras, Little Britain, Planet Earth) and even a bit of American TV (The Simpsons, South Park, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jeopardy).
Music?
Favourite artists: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Who, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, Phish, The Tragically Hip, Jimi Hendrix, Said the Whale…
Favourite album: Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon
Favourite concert: Neil Young at GM Place, 10/22/2008 - I was in the front row of the floor, holding a Canadian flag.
Book?
Nick Hornby's High Fidelity - Delves into the inner minds of the music-obsessed man like no one else can. The film adaptation is also wonderful, but nothing can top the original.
Game?
I've been a Mac user since infancy and have never owned a video game console, so the gaming portion childhood was somewhat deprived compared with most people here. I loved EV Nova, THPS 2, Bugdom, Myst, Gold Digger, Marble Blast Gold, Jinni Zeala Pinball, Glider Pro, Lugaru, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Barrack, Tropico, Snood, SimCity 2000, Portal…
For non-video games, I enjoy air hockey, Scrabble, Settlers of Catan, Cranium and Apples to Apples.
What is your favorite word or quote or expression?
"Be excellent to each other. Party on, dudes."
Miscellanea
What makes you laugh?
The thing that Gord Downie does with his handkerchief while performing in concert. It's oddly hypnotic.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
The poor quality standard for audio in recent years, especially the loudness war. At some point in recent history, major record label execs came up with the brilliant idea that more people would listen to their records if they were louder. They did this by decreasing the difference in volume between the loud and quiet parts of a song, making everything loud. But as Nigel Tufnel so astutely pointed out, "You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?" If everything is loud, then all the excitement from changes in volume disappears.
What general area of your country you live in?
Vancouver, British Columbia
Do you love it?
Absolutely! You can walk, bike or take transit to almost anywhere you need to go. I can be up skiing on the local mountains in less than an hour. People of so many cultures live together. The food is fantastic. You can walk down the street smoking a joint and nobody cares. The Olympics were amazing. Despite the rain for much of the year, we're actually one of the sunniest cities in Canada during the summer. Beautiful parks and beaches are everywhere. Stanley Park is amazing. Our hockey team is actually pretty good for once (even if you can't afford tickets). Plenty of great live music to be had. I could talk about Vancouver for ages, so please ask me if you're wondering about anything.
What was the best thing about the last 12 months?
I undertook a somewhat radical change in education and decided to attempt to make a career in the music industry. I started at the Nimbus School of Recording Arts about a month ago. It's been incredibly fun and enlightening so far, thanks to small classes, great recording studios and expert instructors. In less than a week I will be producing and engineering an epic 18-hour session with a very talented local funk/rock band.
What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?
Continuing to develop my recording skills and discography, maybe even leading to a job somewhere (wouldn't that be nice!). I think my professional development is also improving me on a more personal level. Despite how bleak the music industry might look at the moment, I see so much potential for its future. On a related note, new Radiohead album next year!
A butterfly flaps its wings... what small thing have you done or said that lead to something disproportionately larger?
Probably starting piano lessons several years ago, though I also have my parents to thank for that. My ongoing interest/infatuation with playing and listening to music has been a great enrichment to my life, and has now influenced my choice of career.
All things considered what is the most important thing in the world to you?
Music. Whether it's putting on a record, sitting down at the piano, going to a concert, running a late-night tracking session or skiing through fresh pow with a great riff blasting through my headphones, music is always going to be a core part of my existence. It affects all other aspects of my life, from how I complete everyday tasks to which drugs I try to who I find attractive.

What is the origin or meaning of your user name?
I was walking in the park just the other day and saw crowds of people sitting on the grass with flowers in their hair.
Total number of reddit identities you’ve had?
Two, not including a few one-offs.
What is your favorite part of reddit?
r/canada, r/hockey, r/wearethemusicmakers, r/Apple, r/AskReddit, r/IAmA, r/science, r/drugs, r/trees, r/gratefuldead, r/zombies, r/gonewild
What do you do when you’re not on reddit?
Eat, drink, read, sleep, go to school, listen to music, play music, ski, walk, bike, explore
Do you think reddit has changed in the last year or so?
Yes, but not in a radical way.
If so, do you think it’s been for the better?
Hard to say. Certain subreddits have gotten a bit worse, others have improved. I've been a bit disappointed with how mean-spirited redditors can be at times, but I've seen many more examples of great generosity and kindness. Overall, it's still a very enjoyable place from which to navigate the tubes.
Final Question
Is there anything you'd like to plug/promote/advocate?
Said the Whale – Delightful west-coast indie rock. If you're in Vancouver you can see them perform at the Commodore on November 18th with Kyprios and Vince Vaccaro in the finale of the Peak Performance Project.
