Does anyone else think there should be some sort of cap on how much is spent on campaigning?

I don't think this should necessarily apply to propositions, but could be geared much more to those running for office. Not saying I think it would work just yet, more or less throwing out a potential idea for allowing people other than financial juggernauts to run for office. I know technically "anyone" can run should they meet certain criteria, but lets face it, who even knows they are running unless you commit yourself to research? This idea kinda just popped into my head so I figured i would ask reddit. I've got more to say on this but I wanna see if this thread goes anywhere first.
