Thinking about buying my first gun (shotgun)

So I have been wanting to buy a gun for a while now for home defense and rec shooting. I have several friends who have assorted firearms but we seem to have the most fun shooting the Remington 870s. Also I dont have much money to blow on this so economy is a big factor. what does gunnit think?
