where to stay for nye? ($$$ CHEAPLY)

now that fall tour and halloween are over im starting to think about my plans for the new years run. most important being the nye show...this is also the most difficult due to the ridiculous hotel prices in nyc on nye. any info on cheap places to stay? what about sleeping in the car? are there some parking garages where i could just go crash in my car for a while after the show and not be bothered? if anybody with experience doing this in the city has some insight id appreciate it. i know itll be cold...but...fuck it....phish is at msg for new years eve...what else matters?
