Is it ok to have imaginary friends

I mean I know its not "real" but I feel I need the placebo effect that faith gives me. Are "spiritual principals" that bad or am I just having some kind of linguistic problem.

I mean tolerance honesty open-mindedness willingness are all principals that I "pray" for.

However I have only found real relief when I discover that I have no real faith or belief at all but only have an empty place - a truly empty place in my "heart" that is when I feel like I can actually be a decent guy and tolerate what goes on in my head. I pray every day but I know its just a mind game really.

I go to church and see some of what I know but I am keenly aware that the god they talk about is way more concerned about sex than actual love.

I find some some common ground but I am always keenly aware that its imaginary.

tl;dr

I go to church with my gf whom I love and respect - I need a higher power to keep me off drugs and psycho behaviour
