Why are the majority of current politicians so much dumber than the founding fathers - with such a larger talent pool.

The founding fathers were picked from a pool that was at best 1/100th the size of the current american population. Yet they appear to be far superior in almost every way. Intelligence, Integrity, Character, ect to even the best politicians of our day. Where are these men, and why can't they succeed in our political enviroment.
