Took me 10 minutes to order at McDonalds last night
I was at about a [5] and hitting refresh on the prop 19 results was driving me crazy. I figured I would roll out and grab some food. I pull up to the McDonald's drive-through and through the speakers blasts this epic announcer's voice, akin to the movie-guy voice, "WELCOME TO MCDONAAAAAALDS! WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY OUR -insert promotion here- TONIGHT?"
I sit there staring at the intercom, not sure if I'm listening to a pre-recorded message or something. Do they have a new voice recognition robot that takes orders now? what's going on?
"HELLO PATRON, ARE YOU PREPARED TO PLACE AN ORDERRRRR?" the voice booms. I decide that the only way to know if this is a person or a robot is to throw it a question. "oh... uhhh... yeah.... what's in a McDouble?" I ask
"EXCELLENT QUESTION! TWO ALL BEEF PATTIES WITH CHEESE, LETTUCE, TOMATO, ONION, KETCHUP, MUSTARD, AND...." then the voice stops for a second. confused by the lingering 'and', I inquire
".....and?"
"PICKLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLES!" the unexpected nature of the voice combined with the delivery and the inherent funniness of the word 'pickles' got me cracking up laughing. after that, it took some effort for me to pull myself together, and even more effort to manage to navigate the menu successfully.
I place my order, pull around to the next window, and bear witness to the source of this epic voice. it's a young, small asian dude enjoying the shit out of being the night-shift drive-through guy at McDonalds. "You have one hell of a voice on you," I say to him after he finishes processing the next person.
"Thanks, I get some pretty great responses!" he says, with a tone as if to ease my concern that it took me 10 minutes to place an order. "Next time you come through, you should ask me what kinds of sauces we have. I have a little rap I do for that"
needless to say, I'm going back to that McDonalds and asking what kind of sauces they have
