Hey gamers, i'm planning to create a basic RPG with some original ideas, what features have you seen in games/a game that you liked?

The RPG will be your old 2d pokemon style engine built using RPG Maker so this is really just a personal project in between studying.

I'll be able to do pretty much anything you can imagine doing in Pokemon for gameboy plus more (but nothing incredibly game-changing).

I'll also be making sprites to make sure that if you put on new armour or weapons you can -see- those changes.

I've considered a few of my own views and looked at the game as though I were a fan and what I would want;

  • No levelling or exp. You become stronger by gaining better armour, weapons and learning spells to aid combat. (Basic armour, weapons and spells can be bought at shops but if you want anything elaborate or meaningful you earn it through accomplishments and wear it with pride.)

  • Loads of realistic character interactions to make the world seem more immersive. E.G: Having an NPC do a job for YOU for once.

  • Companionship. Instead of choosing one of five or six companions for whatever (Mass Effect), you get one who plays a vital role in the storytelling.

  • A somewhat slow start. You start off with nothing, working various peasanty jobs and making your way up from the bottom so that it's all the more sweeter when you move up in the world.

  • Cosmetic customization. While you start with a non-negotiable template character I plan to add in Fancy Dress shops and the like which give no bonuses to gameplay but are simply fun. (And will also be necessary certain quests)

  • A cinematic storyline. None of all this awful "Fetch this, fetch that" business which is not fun at all with such basic graphics. Most (if not all) quests will impact the environment or uniquely reward you in some way. Due to the lack of exp there will be meaning in rewards, none of this "Kk you've spent 15 mins on this quest, take 100 xp and nothing else" rubbish.

  • I plan to have the sweetest moments be MEANINGFUL as opposed to just epic. Similar to Half Life 2 which my favourite part was simply playing ball with Dog as opposed to taking on the combine hordes.

I feel like I do not yet have enough things to set it apart from the standard so if you have anything to contribute or to criticise any of my ideas above I would be really grateful. :)

The game will be fantasy with swords and spells etc, oblivion-esque. Open-world, also.

Thanks!
