If the German government was overthrown in a violent coup by a military/religious group would you want the US to help restore the former government?

Let's say the new government has banned books, music, scientific exploration, sports, German cultural events, and movies. The new government is also very unpopular with the German people. The government routinely imprisons/tortures/murders people who disobey their laws. The government also takes away all rights that women had. Fighting during the coup and between the new government and resistance groups after the coup has destroyed or damaged much of German's infrastructure and it would take a long time to rebuild. The German military split between those for and against the coup. Also the resistance groups (who want the elected government back) asked the US for help. So in this situation should the US help?

Edit: Replace Germany with Afghanistan. I really didn't think most people would get hung up on the Germany part of it. Nevertheless, that proves something. Based on this small sample of people, who a terrible event is happening to is more important than what is happening.
