URL Fetch is starting to fail since the recent app downtime.

Hi,

I recently noticed in my app logs that the URL Fetch command fails a certain percentage of the time. My service is split between GAE and LAMP so these two pieces communicate with each other often. They do so by calling URLs of the other. I have noticed that the GAE is not able to communicate with my LAMP server all the time. The LAMP server is up 100% of the time.

I am getting exceptions such as: DownloadError: ApplicationError: 2

Is anyone else experiencing such behavior? Is the fetch command not suppose to be used like this?

Update: I did what was suggested by mibmal. (Adding retries) It helps but when the fetch service is not working, it is not working. I am still getting errors.

Update 2: I tried what maclek suggested (Extending the timeout for the fetch command to 10 seconds) I THINK this helped a little, but you only get 1 retry before running out of time to execute.
