With the elections over, can we stop making it us against them?

I like to think the political spectrum is a bell curve and not a well curve yet whenever one side gains the majority, they take it as a mandate to move towards one extreme. I hated the idea when Nancy Pelosi took it as a mandate and I hate that John Boehner is making similar statements now.
