The Silver Lining of Prop 19

I know there is dismay in the community, but overall I think there are hopeful signs from prop 19.

Despite what news organizations are reporting, Prop 19 did not lose by that much. Swing 4 percent of the vote in favor of 19, and it wins. Keep in mind thats during a mid-term election (when older people vote in greater numbers, and youth and democrats tend to stay home) and also at a time of conservative enthusiasm across the country. It was a perfect storm against prop 19 in those two cases.

But the crafters of prop 19 said a new legalization measure would be back in 2012 on their facebook page. I expect it will be better made, or someone else might even beat them to it. Any why is that better than yesterday? Presidential election. Higher youth turnout, higher democratic turnout. Older generations have less dominance.
