Dr. Layton series for my mom?

I've never played the Dr. Layton series, but I've heard they are great. My mom got a DS and likes brain age and the hidden object games. She liked puzzle games on the computer when I was younger. I was wondering if Dr. Layton would be a good fit. What do you guys think? Is the gameplay difficult? Any feedback would be awesome. Thanks!
