So, my mom thinks negative attitudes cause earthquakes...

I was giving her a ride to the airport and one of her "power of positive thinking" motivational cds was playing. I found most of it gibberish but could see how it may benefit someone psychologically so I kept my mouth shut. Then the women speaking proceeds to say that as negative attitudes (judgmental, pessimistic, etc) around the world increase this somehow causes more earthquakes and volcanoes.

I know this is absolute rubbish and told her this but she still maintains its true as we are all "energy" and our thoughts effect our environment. I'm a biology student with little to no knowledge of geology. Could you fine individuals direct me as to how I could go about demonstrating to her this is not true.

Also, as an interesting side discussion, what has been your experience with this "law of attraction" stuff that seems to be getting so popular. Obviously its effective psychologically, but what crazy crap does it make those that you know believe?
