So, you guys really didn't like Civilization V?

I mean, I know it's not a consensus, but it seems like that was the general tenor of the conversation. I understand that there's a lot less appeal for heavy micromanagement types and wargamers, which I respect, but I really don't think Civ V is any less fun. The appeal for me was always building a large empire with wonders and shit, and there's still plenty to keep me busy, so Civ V satisfies that need just fine.
