The authors of the constitution weren't retarded.

I often hear the argument that citizens should not be allowed to have certian arms, such as full autos, specialized ammunition, armor, etc...

When the constitution was written though, the right to bear arms did include the right to carry the same guns that the standing military had. A farmer had the same weapons that a soldier did. Now, the argument back is that they didn't have assault weapons back in that day, but really, the forefathers were no slouches and I highly doubt that they didn't anticipate the evolution of the firearm.

I'm not saying that you should be able to buy hand grenades at wal-mart, but arguing as if the authors of the amendment thought it would be muskets and cannons forever is absolutely silly. Many of these men were scholars in multiple diciplines.

-side If anything, perhaps a certification to own certian weapons should be implemented, but it should be free and only test on basic use. Full autos are extremely dangerous, and most often not to the person originally aimed at, so I can understand why any asshole shouldn't be able to buy one. Or maybe they should have basic weapons training as part of your schooling. I learned how to use an outdated sewing machine, lathe, band saw, etc, and I haven't touched one since.
