Share your thoughts on Final Fantasy 13

(Disclaimer. just bought an xbox for the sole purpose of playing this game. Its only the second FF game i have played (behind ff8), unless you count watching a friend play one of the earlier ones on the SNES (I am not sure which, as it was years ago), and so, my opinion may be biased. )

I enjoyed it!

At first I was a bit put of when i realized how linear it was (No open world concept until near the end, and so very little choice in the way the story progresses), i was also put off a bit by the lack of random encounters - you could conceivably avoid all but the boss fights if you wanted to.

But it grew on me. Though the game play was linear, the story telling was not. I enjoyed learning about the characters and trying to help them fight against their destinies only to realize that (even while the characters still did not realize it at the end) they could never escape the relentless march towards the end.

After a causal review of some opinions online (mostly negative), I was wondering what other redditors thought.
