I'm Ashamed. If this were a Superbowl, the fact that it is so close at half-time would make people more passionate... but you guys... you guys are just giving up.

I hate to be the broken record of optimism, but let me just point out:

  • 99% of precincts have reported 54% No (3,966,136) and 46% Yes (3,399,032) with a total of 7,365,168 votes.

  • There were 7,300,000 absentee ballots this year, each of which require various verification steps to be counted.

  • There is a separation of 567,104 votes and only a 4% swing

  • There is a statistically-significant amount of absentee ballots that were requested this year, meaning something likely caused a vast amount of Californians to act unpredictably -- possibly due to interest in some specific part of the election/ballot.

So yeah, it's sad to me that after all of this passion from the community/advocates/supporters since it was known that this was going to be on the ballot... so many of you are willing to just throw up your arms and accept failure when it is only half-time.

There is enough statistical significance to allow the assumption that mail-in-ballots may not be represented appropriately by the precinct vote percentages.

While there were obvious things that we can point to for blame on why this "didn't pass" (young people not voting, old people voting more, misinformation, blah blah blah) the fact is it hasn't failed yet. I've watched so many of you guys passionately disagree with pre-vote predictions about Prop 19 failing, yet when it comes down to the one prediction that matters, you just roll over.

This issue still needs passion. We need to know definitively how many more votes are left to be counted and when we will have an actual, tangible inclination of the results.

So you can all give up if you want, but I'm holding on to this until the voting process is actually finished -- not just what can be reported within the short attention span of our media.
