Ents, help me make a mixtape of new music for my honey.

A few years ago I learned the sad statistic that most people stop listening to new music by age 30. The hubby and I decided we would NEVER BE THOSE PEOPLE.

To this end, every year, as a Hanukkah gift for him, I put together a CD/playlist of 9-12 songs, preferably by 9-12 different artists, from the last year (or so). Sometimes I'll include an older song, even quite old, if it's a gem we missed. I guess if I had to name a category it would be "indie," and in the past I've culled some of the choices from "best album of the year" lists from places like AV Club, American Routes, various online mags, etc. We're both massive stoners and also Deadheads. Bands we've come to know and love through this process over the past few years include Grizzly Bear, Death Cab, Fleet Foxes, Tapes 'n Tapes, Phoenix, Yo La Tengo, etc.

Why am I putting this in Trees instead of AskReddit? If it's not something you want to hear when you're high, it shouldn't be on this mix. Also, the first choice I've made for this year is Sufjan Stevens, "From the Mouth of Gabriel," because an ent recommended it.
