How about we just get rid of the "party" system in general?

Would it be all that insane to get rid of the "party" system altogether?

Have everyone run as independents. I think this might force people to vote on the candidates actual positions rather than party rhetoric. It would also stop idiots from voting entirely down a party line instead of thinking about the issues.
