Anyone know of a cheap dental surgeon?

So I woke up this morning with a throbbing and painful feeling in my lower jaw. Turns out after going to a dentist just to check out what the issue is that I need a tooth pulled. The tooth is irritating the shit out of me and I really want/need something done about it. Now the initial check was already 75 bucks; having the tooth removed (not even replaced) seems like it'll cost me 1200 bucks!! I'm not insured (don't ask) and, due to the recent economic issues we've been having, not that rich at all. In all honesty, I've been unemployed for the last year and most of my savings have gone towards keeping myself afloat without having to completely sacrifice my way of living. Don't get me wrong, this just means that I budgeted for myself a monthly 'allowance' that is able to provide me with food and the other basics, such as rent and power.

I don't have much of a choice, I need the tooth removed it seems or it'll keep bugging me like this. Problem is, if I have to pay what I've been quoted for the procedure, as described above, I won't be able to eat much of anything for the rest of the month :/ It'll put a serious dent in my savings.

So, does anyone know of a cheap-ish dental surgeon in the Houston area who could do this for (a lot) less? From what I understand the procedure takes less than 30 minutes, and almost no actual materials, besides anesthetics and such. Can it really be that expensive? I considered pulling the tooth myself, but I'm a pussy in that regard.
