I need opinions on a stupid Government assignment

I hate basic core classes. In this one, I have to write a position paper on a topic of my choice. So, I'm going to attempt to show mainstream, mass media as an impediment to actual democracy, in that it "manufactures consent" (Yes, I am using that book as a reference, naturally) through manipulation of language and social/cultural context, wielding of corporate power, etc.

It isn't due for another month, but the two main sources I'm using so far are, as mentioned earlier, Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent, and James Paul Gee's Social Linguistics and Literacies: Ideology in Discourses. For those who don't know, one approaches the media from the perspective of a corporate machine, and deals with that almost exclusively; the other is more a study on language's root in social, cultural, and political ideologies, and how those can be used to understand the plight of various social and cultural groups. It doesn't deal explicitly with media, but it doesn't take much to apply it.

I don't need help so much as opinions. What are some ways I could push my argument intelligently? I know it isn't hard to just use Faux Noes and just let its absurdity speak for itself. But I don't want to incorporate just Fox, because it isn't the only media giant that holds too many by its strings.

Thank you, dear Reddit.

EDIT: Rereading it, my question seems a bit vague. I hope that it isn't, but to clarify: the mass media (and all media, really) uses very specific language for the purpose of framing opinions, choosing what is okay/not okay to think about and how much to think about it, legitimizing claims that benefit its business and pummeling those that don't, etc., precisely because it is a corporate business and seeks to further its own hold and profits. I want to get into not only the concentration of most media into fewer hands (like money, heh), but how that language is used and why it is significant. Hope that helps.
