Preferred Wrist Guards?
Reddit, what are your preferred wrist guards, if you use them at all? I convinced several friends to get into snowboarding this year, and I'm really worried that one or more of them might injure themselves when they are learning.
I had a pair of Pro-tec wrist guards, but i still got a minor sprain in my wrist on my second day while wearing them- they have elastic in the band, so I don't know if they really helped at all.
I've heard of the more expensive brands, like flexmeter, which look pretty serious, but none of the "studies" showing how much better they supposedly are are ever linked to, so I don't know if it's just a bunch of marketing hype.
Would a pair of $20-$30 Dakine or R.E.D. wrist guards be suitable?
edit: everyone seems to be telling me to disregard wristguards; acquire falling skills, but I'm sorry, no matter how well you teach someone to fall, or how much time you spend, there's no way that they won't occasionally put their hands down to stop a fall out of instinct in their first couple of days when they are learning (maybe YOU didn't ever do that, but not all of my friends have those instincts yet).
So please don't think that I don't fully know that falling properly will prevent injuries far better than any wrist guard. But for those new people, a double-layer of protection is what i'm going for- learning how to fall properly, and then having wrist guards to (ideally) lessen the damage for when they are still ingraining in their heads how to fall properly.
