Who are these women with such crippling periods that they have to send their significant others out to buy tampons for them?

I just read the relationship hacks thread and the OP said, "At some point she will ask you to buy tampons for her. It happens." WTH, I've never sent any of my boyfriends out to buy tampons for me, nor do I know anyone who's done that. This shit comes once a month on average for like 40 years -- what girl doesn't plan ahead and have her bathroom stocked? Or are their periods so heavy that it's like the blood hallway in The Shining, soaking up their supplies so fast that they can't tear themselves off the toilet long enough to run to the pharmacy or grocery store? I just don't get it. It seems like something you make your boyfriend do just to be an asshole (barring circumstances like post-miscarriage or some sort of severe and sudden medical issue -- I'm more referring to regular ol' periods).

** EDIT:** Thanks for the comments and the feedback, folks. I guess I never really thought about the "While you're out" argument, which makes sense if you live far from a store and don't want to head back out. I live in a city and am a couple blocks from a grocery store and pharmacy, so if I'm out or running low, I just head out for a quick re-up.

When I posted this, I was more thinking of women who ask their boyfriends/husbands to leave the house and go on a tampon run for them, not "While you're out" instances. This was based off the relationship hacks submitter who said, "When you go to the store, buy 3 small packages of her brand. Give her one and hide the other two in your car (near the spare tire, she'll never look there). Next time she asks you to buy her some you can just go to the bar and have a beer instead of actually going to the store." That led me to believe his girlfriend makes him leave the house just to go get tampons for him, and I've never heard of anyone doing that.
