Did you or anybody you know refer to the Koopa Troopas from the original Super Mario Bros. as "ducks"?

My friend and I are having a debate.

Edit: Sorry, I'm relatively new to reddit. Let me clarify my question to make this more thought-provoking.

In the midst of a discussion about SMB, my friend referred to the enemies from the original game as "duck turtles". I remember back in the late 80's, I had heard other people call them ducks -- these were usually people who hadn't played a lot of video games.

Hearing this, another friend exclaimed that we were both crazy, and that there was no way anybody could make that mistake. Determined to find more people who had experienced this strange phenomenon back in the day, I turned to you.
