Friend's landlord just gave him back his rent check, said their lawyers would contact him.

They won't give him any information at all besides that. What rights does he have in this situation? Has he been formally evicted? How long does he have before he has to move out? Btw he lives in California

** More info: He has never been late on a rent check. He got arrested there a few months ago, but is working it out and has not been convicted of anything while living there. Yes, what he got arrested for would be breaking the lease...if he were convicted I would think. ** ** No he has not received a formal eviction notice **
