Help me move to Portland?

I'm a 27 year old Java programmer from Orlando, and I've realized recently that I cannot stay in Florida any longer. I can't stand the year-round heat and the stress of dealing with Floridians every day has started to result in actual medical problems. After studying hundreds of cities across the country, I decided that Portland is the place where I belong.
I'm going to be flying to Oregon on Saturday to spend all of next week in Portland, and I've done my research online to find some fun places to visit to get a sense of the entertainment options available, but I was hoping to get some recommendations from the locals about where I should look regarding potential future housing, and where I can go where I might have a chance to meet some business contacts who might be able to help me find a job. I've got plenty of money saved up for the move and to get myself set up when I get there, so deciding on an apartment that I can rent when I get there and finding a job are the only things standing between me and my dream city!
