Redditors: what did you do when you moved to a brand new city?
Poor phrasing, but I didn't know what to ask exactly without going into details. Anyways, I moved to a brand new city for work a few months ago. Things have since settled into a boring routine of working and sleeping with little else (aside from reddit of course) in between. I know no one here except for 2 childhood friends that I've known for 15-17 years. But one guy is in medical school and I never see him (~36 hour hospital shifts, going to different cities every 2 weeks, girlfriend) and the other is doing graduate studies for particle physics so I also never see him (thesis and girlfriend). At work, everyone is at least 10-15 years older than me so we have little interests in common. It's not like I do nothing: I go to the gym, swim, run and bike to take up some time, but other than that I'm at a loss of what to do after work to stave off boredom (and those activities are fairly solitary). My friends have suggested video games but I tend to feel like I've wasted my time after playing, plus I get migraines from my computer (and TV) screen after about an hour, so not an ideal solution. Has anyone else experienced this kind of boredom and disillusionment (I was promised a better life with power armour after graduation, damn it!)? Ideas? I'm open to any suggestions.
