Making a starter, have a question/concern
Hey everyone! So I'm making my first yeast starter for a Russian Imperial Stout i'm brewing on Sunday... I ordered all the ingredients from NorthernBrewer, and I was a bit concerned about the yeast... I got a White Labs liquid English Ale yeast (with an ice pack for shipping), and it came earlier today. I left it out for about an hour while getting everything prepped for making the starter.
Went through the process up until pitching the yeast into my flask, shook the hell out of the yeast vial, and then pitched it in, closed it up. Now there seems to be small yeast cell clusters floating on top of the starter. I'm worried that this yeast may not have survived the trip (Minneapolis to Central California is a big trip). Is it normal to have the yeast clump like this? I guess I've never seen it since this is my first starter, and the yeast usually goes into the 5 gallons of beer and the lid goes on, out of sight, out of mind. Should I be concerned? Relax, don't worry, yadda yadda yadda?
Thanks in advance brewit!
