Is it just me, or are anime adaptations of light novels much, much better than your typical anime?

The few that really stick out are Baccano!, Durarara!!, Ookami-san, and Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. In each one of those, every character is amazingly fleshed out and the stories are much more engrossing than a large portion of anime.

Anyone else notice this?
