My LTR; an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
Early/mid twenties, female here. I've been with my boyfriend all throughout college, moved to the opposite coast, and now have been living with him for over a year (with two adorable cats). We're both working full time, and I'm losing interest in an awful way.
I feel like the old ball and chain, and we're not even engaged. I've had several serious talks with him lately about reciprocating physically, emotionally and around the apartment. He's improved a bit in some aspects, but I still feel like we're not even dating. He works late for no reason, which means we spend less time together since I have to be up early for work. I'm a super happy-go-lucky, loving, but independent person, and the lack of reciprocation has been gnawing away at me on many levels.
I believe in families, significant others, friends, roommates, whatever, eating together and sharing conversation. I try to have the food hot and ready for when he gets back (I'm a really good cook, btw), but then he'll tell me to start eating by myself as he unwinds. Then, he'll insist on turning on the tv, and will spend ten minutes trying to choose which episode of the same old show that he wants to watch. This absolutely drives me crazy. We don't have a microwave, and he'll complain about the food getting cold after waiting. AGhhh!!! What's the point of even waiting? I ask him every night, "can we just listen to music and talk"? He'll just shrug it off and flip the channels.
To complicate things further, I've noticed myself unintentionally flirting with this guy I work with recently. Now that I've taken note of my unusually giggly behavior, I've tried to cut it out and ignore him, as even acknowledging another guy gives me massive guilt. Definitely a good move. But this has made me realize that I miss getting attention. My boyfriend doesn't show any interest in me, but he'll still mention the fact that he wants to marry me every now and then. I used to fantasize about being married to him, but now the very thought makes me very upset. He's a great, handsome guy, but I just feel ignored and disrespected. Of course he wants to marry me! I'm in excellent shape, I'm attractive, I make him killer meals, I clean the apartment and pay half of the bills. I fear that this isn't a rough patch-it's just how he is. He's just not a touchy, talkative guy, and I expect some love-making and conversation every now and then. At least more than once every two months. I'm terrified that he's going to pop the question at Christmas in front of his family because his family is pressuring him and we've been dating for five years. I don't want to say yes anymore!
At this point, should I even consider this a relationship? I want to take a break (if even for a week or so), but am in a new city and don't have a place to crash. I need to back away and re-evaluate things. He really is a beautiful, talented, intelligent guy, and I love him, but croiky, he may not be the best mate for me!
WWRD? (That's Reddit, not Reagan) Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did it end, or how is it still going?
