Forward the coming American Collapse

Putting prop 19 aside, is anyone really worried about the direction of the country? Have we lost what little ability we had left to actually govern? With the influx of a new republican house majority, the hope of getting any meaningful legislation done seems to have vanished. I think things are going to get a lot worse in the coming years. The US seems to now solidly be a plutocracy where the needs of the minority rich outweigh the needs of the poor and middle class. Income inequality is at its worst in decades and there seems to be nothing being done to correct that. Giving your population a decent standard of living seems to me to be foundational to national stability. Moreover we're spending billions abroad when we can't even fix basic problems domestically. Are we just another failed empire on the decline? Has our political system become broken to the extent that we can't adjust to new circumstances?

With Citizens v. FEC I don't really see things improving in the short term as new congressmen are just going to be even more beholden to special interests & corporations than they already are. The rich really should learn from history; when things get bad enough it'll be their heads that the people are calling for. Anyone else feel this way?
