How do I describe my main character while using first person?

I am desperately trying to avoid the mirror cliché. Some physical characteristics are easy, people compare themselves to other all the time. So basic physical characteristics can be taken care of.

But what about facial details? Is it even a requirement to describe the character in that much detail?
