What Reddit can teach us about ourselves

Talk. Talk. Talk.

That is all we ever do.

I read Reddit everyday. Why do I read it? I enjoy finding funny pictures, anecdotes and incredible videos like the BF 1942 with the loop airplane jump.

However, almost everyday, on the front page, I also see some smart, cheeky, perhaps even intelectual remarks about the themes of politics, economics, ethics etc. The big themes. Themes that change our everyday life. Or at least should. Someone always seems to have an idea about how our society should be run and they seem convinced that they could do a better job than any president ever, dead or alive.

Why don't they make their thought's come alive? Why does nothing ever come out of it?

Because all we are is talk. We are lazy suckers. All we can do is post our useless opinions online. Very ironic of me to say that but perhaps that's exactly the point. I'm a lazy fuck too.

We don't care enough. That is all. If you believe in something you should stake your life on it. If you truly believe prop19 should be legalised (this is not an argument for or against) and if you think there is no justification for it being illegal, then go out there. Go gather hundreds, thousands of people. Stand by your belief. Demand answers. Boycot the government. Demand the truth. Call a hunger strike. It may be childish but if that's the only way we can get an answer then so be it.

Justification. We always need justification for something that goes against our belief of right and wrong. If you don't have it then go and discover it. And don't give up until you have found the counter-argument against your thoughts. Then you gain perspective.

All of you that care about Marijuana- Go and demand precise answers. Go and demand real statistics. Go and demand figures and numbers. Go and demand justification for why you can't enjoy an "innocent" spliff. When you get justification either agree with it and accept it or argue it until you win or lose. It is either wrong or right. If it is wrong then fight it. If it is right then forget it and adapt your principles.

A lot of you blame older people for the failure of prop 19 and you are partially right. At least to a certain extent.

What struck me the most about the statistics of prop 19 is that over 40% of 29 and under voted against the proposition. Perhaps it is not just the elderly but US (young adults) too that are responsible, even if we represented only 13% of the voters.

If you don't like something then fight it until you either see where you made mistake in your thinking or until you show others where they made a mistake in theirs.
