Lagging like a bitch? Try this.
So I'm on a high-end gaming laptop, that can play most modern games on max settings, and if not that, close to it. Minecraft, however, refuses to run without SEVERE lag. It's unplayable at times. I tried changing the render distance, set Java to "realtime" priority, etc etc. Nothing worked. It was all equally bad. I used to be able to play the browser version in Firefox, though, and it would run perfectly. The update seems to have done something, though, because now that's not working. So then I tried a "last-resort"... I tried IE. And you know what? As much as I hate the damn thing, I haven't had a BIT of lag since I did it. So try it out if you're getting horrendous lag. Reminder: In-Browser is NOT compatible with HD texture packs. Normal ones they will run fine, but the HD (32x32 and above) WILL NOT RUN.
tl;dr - If Minecraft is lagging for you, try a few different browsers. Internet Explorer ended up working the best for me. In-browser won't work with HD texture packs, though.
EDIT: Grammar.
