Also me reading lab reports. "Yup. They're numbers alright"

Sal4SaleENT HUMPY, Emergent Humptologist•

I once pronounced anion like onion in front of a tech and nearly got my ass beat

dyjsuimihxx•

I did the same thing but in front of the gf at the time who was a chem major. She gave me a “sweetie did you go to high school” look before she laughed

16
CriticalLimeasysthole•

Ah yes, the pt’s age and age numbers are high? Ahh yes I see it right here, those numbers simply won’t do we’ll take them right in

32
murse_joeJolly Volly•

88 that's a little high isn't it?

That's his age.

Yea exactly, that doesn't look good.

25

Hmm potassium levels of 25 mmols, that's a little elevated yes?

CoffeePie87Narcanned your honor student•

EMT here. Can confirm. I know what dead looks like.

Sloppy1stsFL Basic Bitch --> RN Student•

From what I've gathered, the important thing is knowing what almost or about to be dead looks like.

Level21•

Are you suggesting that EMT's should be aware of the patients present state of wellbeing?

Next you'll ask us to do a blood pressure or something.

70
BaggyBadgerPantsEMT-Deedeedee•

"Do" blood pressure? I don't have one of those automated cuffs. I thought everyone just got BP using that math formula: resp + pt age = systolic. (X2 for pt under 50). You get the bottom number part by subtracting 2/3 of systolic.

If the pt is having a stroke just put an extra 1 in front of systolic.

A lot easier than lugging a dynamap around

25

tfw my systolic is 80 but I feel fine

8
blackflag209•

86/58 nice

Sloppy1stsFL Basic Bitch --> RN Student•

Well, no, actually.

I mean, yes, definitely, but I was really just saying that it's important that someone be able to recognize dangerous dysrhythmias.

When he said "I know what dead looks like", I assume he meant asystole, not a corpse.

Level21•

I do actually have some 12 lead inturprtation so I know how to watch for the stuff that requires 50 MLs of diesel.

2
tempitheadem•

It's the one where there are squiggles, and then all the squiggles go away, right?

7
Thaakir33•

Then it turned out to be fine VF and you didn’t see because you didn’t print the strip. My lecturer literally tuned us about always printing the strip before diagnosing. But it’s a lot easier to see fine VF if you zoom in on the monitor.

SliverMcSilversonTX - Paramedic•

tfw your monitor doesn't zoom in :(

Your monitor zooms in......?

2
Thaakir33•

Lifepak 15 does.

2
BaselineVitalsMidwest - AEMT(Medic Student)•

How do you zoom on the 15? Just scanned through the user manual, and no one in the firehouse knows. Would be a neat trick.

Also if anyone else is shit at timing drug pushes/codes, both Zolls and LPs have a timestamp in the top right of the screen. Saved my ass during ACLS and PALS where outside apps weren't available to time your epi pushes/pulse checks.

3

I know STEMI. Everything else the hospital can figure out.

1

Well and asystole I suppose.

2
fanman100•

What's the monitor say

Zoll?

I hate you fanman100

43

Just transmit the damn 12 lead fanman100...

14
kiffrenCO - Ambulance Driver/EMT•

Ahh, yes, squiggles.

12
Additional_EssayRN, EMT-B•

I was BLS level for a long time in an official capacity, but I'm pretty sure I'm not an idiot so I learned a lot about ECGs (and to a lesser level 12 leads). I was always glad when I wasn't made to feel stupid by the more experienced docs/nurses/medics for learning more. I asked a lot of questions.

9
its702CA - EMT B•

Looks like youve got a bunch of lines in your heart.

Youll need a labotomy, Ill grab the saw.

8
CarsianLocation - Designation (student if needed)•

Haha. Yeah, EMT bad. /s

3 months of community college training wasted!

6
daniel-dani•

Are you stalking me op?

4
TheRainbowpill93•

In IFT when you get paired with a Medic, they'll often be so bored they'll start teaching you ALS stuff so I definitely have learned quite a bit about ECG rhythms.

Not as much as a medic but I can tell what is normal, not normal, and "OMG GET THE MEDIC GENFJNFBFBGDKMDNGF !!!"

4
ncoats98•

Looks like we have some squiggles here, yes very good. And here we notice some bumps and what I like to call “wacky wiggles.” Looks like ALS to me there mr medic.

3
crazyoldmax•

Most of the time i do it to look professional...

2
