2000/3000/4000 Damage Badge

Question

I saw a video of a player trying to get the 4000 damage badge and what he did was have his mates let him do most of the damage in the hope that he gets it. Though, once enemies were knocked, he killed them off instead of spraying through their knockdown shields. I understand that spraying through a knockdown shield isn't the smartest move when you're just going for the win, but when you're just looking for high damage output (especially with teammates that can cover you most of the time) it seemed like a missed opportunity.

Am I missing something here, or could knockdown shields assist in getting a high damage game?

Knockdown shields don't contribute damage wise otherwise we would have a 10k damage badge lol

That's what I was guessing I might've missed. Thanks for the clarification.

Knocked people on the other hand do count as damage, just not their knock back shields. So every downed player is at most 100 extra damage.

There is a huge untapped demand for the following damage badges: 2, 20, and my personal favourite the motherlode 200.
