If you were a Raptors fan, would you trade Marc Gasol and a 1st round pick for Demar Derozan right now?

I'm arguing this with a fellow raps fan of mine. This depends on if you think the raptors can actually contend or at least make the conf. finals/finals. This squad has shown that they are hard workers and hustlers and Siakam and FVV have taken leaps (not to mention lowry and Ibaka have been hurt). And Gasol may not be great offensively anymore, but his defense against the likes of Embiid, Vuc, and other bigs is still phenomenal. So, would you trade for Derozan (who Is better than gasol but not neccesarily for this team) or keep Gasol?

No, Marc is essential to our squad, plus a late 1st round pick is incredibly valuable given our scouting team's knack for finding hidden gems.

No. For three reasons.

Reason number one, I think Gasol is a better player than DeRozan overall. So if anything, the Spurs should add a pick.

Reason number two, DeRozan will get touches out of your rising superstar Siakam.

Reason number three, the Raptors can pseudocontend. They are not a simple first round exit. No reason to change such a succesful group of guys.

There is no way Gasol is better than Derozan overall skill wise lol, but Marc is more valuable to our team since he has what Derozan lacks (overall elite defense, 3pt shooting).

Gasol is a better basketball player than DeRozan. They have completely different playstyles and play two completely different positions but as much as one can compare them I think that Gasol is more skilled than DeRozan. Better post defender, better team rebounder, better rim protector, better help defender, better passer, better floor spacer, helps offensive and defensive synergy more.

We need Gasol to punk Embiid and other elite centers in the playoffs, so no. Our interior defense and rebounding would literally be non-existent with him gone.

the most id do is Powell and a 1st. Marc is so viable still on the defensive end and clearly still a great passer. I don't think it's worth swapping his defense to take away shots from Lowry and Siakam
